Retherford Lifts Peoria To AFL Title

White Sox prospect C.J. Retherford helped lead Peoria to the Arizona Fall League title on Saturday. Retherford hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Peoria Javelinas a 5-4 victory over Phoenix Desert Dogs. "That was a big thing. They'd won the championship so many years in a row," Retherford said.

Yankees Win 27th World Series

The New York Yankees won their 27th World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 on Wednesday evening. For the Yankees, this was their first World Series since 2000 when they defeated the Mets. Hideki Matsui earned the M.V.P. award by hitting .615 (8 for 13) with three homers and eight R.B.I. Matsui collected six RBIs in the game, including a second inning home run. Andy Pettitte started and got the win, lasting five and two-thirds while allowing all three of Philadelphia's runs. Mariano Rivera recorded the final five outs, including the final groundout of Shane Victorino to Robinson Cano at second base.

Nick Swisher and Hideki Matsui also homered for the Yankees. Jayson Werth connected twice and Carlos Ruiz had one homer for the Phillies.
